In this episode, we speak with Lt Col Kyle M. Johnston, program director of the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP), 381st Training Squadron, Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas. We discuss his path to becoming a PA, including taking advantage of the Health Professions Scholarship Program; differences in being a civilian PA and military PA; the value of military PAs in protecting our nation; his transition to education; and managing a program with an annual enrollment of 500 students.

Lt Col Kyle M. Johnston is the Interservice Physician Assistant Program (IPAP) Program Director, 381st Training Squadron, Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Texas. As the program director her oversees greater than 500 students annually for the largest PA school in the nation. Students enrolled are from all branches for the Department of Defense and Homeland Security, to include Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, Navy, and Army.
Lt Col Johnston was a direct accession commissioned in June 2008 through the Health Professions Scholarship Program. He has deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Resolute Support, and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
